Our
Owners
Rudi
Rudi is the Head Kickboxing and Muay Thai Instructor at Smash Gyms and a San Shou World Champion with decades of experience in the Bay Area combat-sports community. Over the course of his career, Rudi has mentored countless youth athletes, competitive fighters, and professionals-shaping not only high-level performers, but disciplined, confident individuals.
Known for his deep technical knowledge, authenticity, and ability to connect with students of all ages, Rudi has been a cornerstone of combat sports in the Bay Area for multiple decades.
In 2016, Rudi partnered with Jake to open Smash Gyms. What began as a single location has since grown into multiple gyms, built on a shared vision of world-class coaching, strong culture, and long-term athlete development.
You can find Rudi teaching Muay Thai and Kickboxing at both our locations and mentoring our aspiring and world class competitors.
Jake
Jake earned his degree in Kinesiology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He later went on to earn his executive MBA at Stanford, where he helps coach and program strength and conditioning for the wrestling team. In 2009, he won three gold medals at the Maccabiah Games-the third-largest international sporting event in the world-and also captured the Munich Grand Prix Open in Tel Aviv, Israel.
After a successful collegiate career, Jake joined Apple, Inc., where he contributed to the development of the exercise and fitness features for the first Apple Watch.
In 2016, Jake opened Smash Gyms in Milpitas, CA which eventually expanded to include Sunnyvale with the goal to bring his knowledge and experience to the community and those around him. You can still find him teaching kids wrestling on Fridays, or helping out with the day to day operations of the gym.
